아나그램(anagram)이란 동일한 철자들의 순서를 바꾸어 의미있는 단어를 찾거나 만들어 내는 철자바꾸기 놀이를 말한다. 단순하게는 ‘triangle = integral’, ‘earth = heart’ 등의 한 단어로 이루어진 아나그램부터 ‘George Bush = He bugs Gore(부시와 앨 고어의 관계를 풍자한 아나그램)’ ‘That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind = A thin man ran; makes large stride, left planet, pins flag on moon. On to Mars!'(닐 암스트롱이 달에 첫발을 내딛을 때 했던 말을 이용한 아나그램)’ 등의 길고 복잡한 문장까지도 아나그램이 가능하다.
